For the past several years, my alma mater Heartland Christian College, has hosted a two day youth conference called Awaken. The goal of these meetings is to interact with leaders and like minded people, but most importantly to interact with God and awaken to His will for our lives. I’ve been a part of these meetings in various outlets: bass playing, running sound, stage setup, stage tear down and more recently as a leader in our youth group. This year, I’ve been asked to do something that I’ve not done before…
I hate my alarm clock. My wife can attest that most days I completely ignore it as it goes off three or four times. Once I’m out of bed, it doesn’t take long for me to be awake, but I’d rather stay in my warm cocoon and get that extra five minutes. This morning as I turned my alarm off, I glanced at a couple emails. One of those emails caused me to give an audible shout of joy(This doesn’t happen often) This email was from the editor at Splickety Prime. The latest contest issue of Splickety Prime launches today.
When I began to write for Splickety, my imagination jumped all over the Prime and Havok issues. I’m a big fan of Science Fiction and Fantasy. I’ve started reading more Steampunk and I’m working my way into Dystopian and Urban Fiction for a couple upcoming projects. Splickety Prime handles those other genres pretty well, but no! I’ll never write for Splickety Love. Until I said that phrase to my wife…
I’ve returned home from my life changing time at the Realm Makers conference. As my brain is organizing and prioritizing information, a theme has come to the light that I’d love to share with you all. Let’s take a moment to explore the Hero’s Journey.
One thing I’ve always had a knack for in life, is coming up with stories. You might think that would make me a good liar, but (un)fortunately keeping a straight face isn’t in my bag of tricks. Recently I found a master list of story prompts by Eric J Krause. It was dangerous for me to peruse that list. I couldn’t stop the flow of ideas.
Sometimes, though, I have an idea but end up staring the dreaded blinking cursor.
